While I offer knowledgeable representation in a number of legal areas, My main practice areas include:

• Civil Litigation. This includes representation of clients in a wide-variety of non-criminal matters. Through my prior practice in North Carolina in my practice in the Gunnison Valley for the last eight years, I have gained experience in both large, complex cases involving disputes between large corporations and also in smaller cases involving individuals and small businesses. I have tried cases in Gunnison and Saguache counties and have appeared in the courts in Chaffee and Montrose counties as well (although the cases in which I was involved ended in settlement and so did not go to trial.) I have also represented clients in the federal courts. I have also handled several appeals in the Colorado courts, and represented clients in several state and federal appeals in my prior practice in North Carolina. I typically charge for litigation services on an hourly basis but I am willing to handle personal injury cases and other appropriate cases on a contingency fee arrangement, where payment is not due unless damages are covered.
• Business formation and operation. I assist clients in the formation of partnerships, corporations and limited liability companies. I prepare the documents required for formation and the preparation of agreements between business partners to cover eventualities such as death, disability or retirement. I also prepare contracts needed in the operation of a business, such as contracts with the suppliers of parts or services and contracts for use with customers. I also represent clients in the purchase and sale of businesses.
• Land Use and Governmental Relations. I represent clients in land use issues in Gunnison and Hinsdale County, as well as in Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte. The Gunnison County Land Use Resolution is a unique and complex document and I have considerable experience in the interpretation and application of that set of regulations. I have also represented a mining company in land use issues in Hinsdale County.
• Real Estate. I represent clients in the preparation of contracts for the purchase and sale of real estate, including residential and commercial real estate. I also assist clients in the preparation of deeds, deeds of trust, promissory notes and other documents required for the completion of real estate transactions.
• Estates. I represent clients in the preparation of wills and in the administration of estates. I have also represented clients in litigation involving challenges to wills.
• Mining Law. I am Colorado counsel for a mining company that owns a gold mine in Hinsdale County and have represented that company in litigation with a mine operator over the terms of a mine lease and in connection with regulatory and land use issues.
